fellowship 2008

The trans•act 2008 fellows have been selected., and we are ready to launch the fellowship in New Orleans and Los Angeles as of June 2, 2008. Check out the announcement on the Farmers Market Coalition's website about our new fellows.

The selected trans•act fellows will work during the summer of 2008 on the following:

SEED Research:

  1. Participate in conducting detailed "past analysis" of all the SEED research done in all markets within the Unitd States, to examine the tool's efficacy, practicality and usefulness. Analyze the tool in terms of its input format, data logic and rationale, report format and user-friendliness of the tool. Analyze the data gathered, individually as well as in time-series.

  2. Revise the tool with the analysis result, to create a more user-friendly SEED v.3.0, with an improved input instruments.

  3. Test the tool, and plan a new round of SEED surveys in New Orleans/Gulf Coast region later in 2008

NEED Research:

  1. Participate and lead the NEED research in the selected farmers markets throughout the southern California area, to bring the pilot research to scale and construct a working tool to measure the community impact of farmers markets.

  2. Surveys consist of in-person interviews at the market, observation (“shadowing”) of people at the market, and resident interviews in the immediate vicinity surrounding the market.

  3. Work with the senior fellow in organizing and setting up the site visits, and assist the senior fellow in the NEED tool development and finalizing.

  4. Participate in general literature research, and in writing up the research for publication.
