Crescent City Farmers Market to temporarily close starting March 19

Beginning on March 19, 2020, the Crescent City Farmers Market will cease market operations until further notice to minimize any risk to shoppers and vendors during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While we feel that we have instituted many safety precautions at market since the onset of this crisis, the safest measure at this time is extreme social distancing. Rest assured that in the meantime, Market Umbrella staff will be working diligently behind the scenes to develop ways to continue to support our vendors as well as our communities’ vulnerable populations. We will use this time to explore innovative options such as ways to create a virtual market place. This has been a very difficult decision but the health and wellness of our community is our top priority.

Crescent City Farmers Market has partnered with Top Box Foods to create boxes full of CCFM vendor products for home delivery on Tuesdays/Wednesdays and Fridays/Saturdays. Boxes are available at Top Box Foods. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to see when sales are launched.

Please check back regularly for updates as we work to organize additional methods for food distribution.

Market Match: Meeting Shoppers Halfway

We believe farmers markets should benefit farmers, shoppers, and the wider community. Through Market Match, we offer incentives to vulnerable consumers to purchase the best local produce available at our markets and ReFresh Farmers Market. Participants enjoy the magic of farmers markets by actively purchasing local foods directly from farmers and fishers.

Market Match for SNAP

Are you enrolled in SNAP, the federal program also known as Food Stamps? Here’s how Market Match works: First, purchase wooden tokens from the Market’s Welcome Tent with your Electronic Benefit Transfer card (or EBT). Through Market Match, we’ll then meet you halfway by matching up to $20 of your SNAP purchases per visit with wooden tokens. Learn cooking tips and how to stretch your dollars by purchasing at the peak of the season.

If you join us, you will not be alone. Since 2008, Market Match has helped us reach 2,500 households in NOLA who needed a little extra help putting healthy food on the table. This also contributes to broadening the Market community itself. More vulnerable families are drawn to CCFM for both the produce and the people. Kids join the Marketeer Club, and adults find out how to participate in additional preventative health programs.

We are grateful for generous support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and USDA FINI for making Market Match possible.
